The scope is a named manufacturer's processed shark product, not every shark product. In its October 8, 2026 announcement, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) listed two manufacture dates for ㈜와와식품 / Wawa Food's ‘상어’ (a processed seafood product): July 15 and July 28, 2026. It announced a sales stop and recall after methylmercury findings above the listed standard. The Korean source PDF and separate Food Safety Korea entries allow a date-by-date check.

A two-record identification table

On mobile, swipe the table sideways to read the final "Official record" column.

Manufacture date Reported methylmercury Reported production Official record
July 15, 2026 1.4 mg/kg 184.1 kg Food Safety Korea
July 28, 2026 1.3 mg/kg 111.6 kg Food Safety Korea

MFDS gives a threshold of 1.0 mg/kg or less for both. The PDF identifies the manufacturer in Busan's Saha district, the 20 kg package unit, and a use-by period of 12 months from manufacture. A manufacture date is not the same as the use-by date. The figures are results reported for the affected product, not all shark products. Both live records list recall grade 2 and the corresponding manufacturing date; they must not be collapsed into one lot. The live detail does not fill in its barcode or recall-method fields, so this guide does not invent them.

Do not borrow the swordfish data

The same MFDS PDF also lists 오성씨푸드 / Oseong Seafood's ‘황새치 S/T 2호’, manufactured January 15, 2026. It is another manufacturer and product with its own result. Neither its date nor its figure identifies the Wawa Food product. An earlier cadmium-related swordfish story is a different recall again; matching a species nickname or a newspaper headline cannot replace the manufacturer–product–date check.

A practical decision sequence

First, read the manufacturer, product name and manufacture date together on the original label. If a portion was repacked or the label has been discarded, ask the seller for original-package and purchase-record details. Do not classify an unidentified portion as either included or excluded from this article alone; refrain from consuming it while seeking confirmation. If it matches the affected product, MFDS tells purchasers to stop consumption and return it to the place of purchase. The live recall detail also points to the customer contact printed on the product or the retailer. These are product-identification and return steps, not an individual medical diagnosis. Seek clinical advice about personal symptoms or exposure concerns.

Status limit as checked October 10: the two Food Safety Korea detail pages do not publish a recall-completion time in their rendered fields. A recall announcement does not establish that every retailer has removed its stock or processed every return. MFDS separately gives 1399 and the Nae Son An app for reporting food-related illegal acts; those are not a substitute for contacting the place of purchase.
