An ordinary nursery or kindergarten schedule may not cover a late shift, weekend or holiday. In its October 19, 2026 announcement, Korea's Ministry of Education used 틈새돌봄 (“gap care”) for support outside ordinary operating hours, pointing to extended-hour childcare at daycare centers and hub-style care at kindergartens or daycare centers. Those are provider categories, not a promise that every center covers every shift.

Separate three decisions

1. Find a possible provider. The ministry said it would improve the front pages of the Childcare Portal (아이사랑) and Nuri Curriculum after-school portal so parents can reach provider searches and application instructions. It also announced QR-code leaflets and posters and links through local-government and education-office websites. The release describes the routes but does not establish that each homepage update or poster is already live everywhere. We could not independently verify the live portal screens for this draft.

2. Match the actual date and child. The announced search guidance is intended to show provider lists by area, application eligibility and available hours. Narrow your search by location and the particular day and hours you need. Ask the listed provider what age or enrollment conditions apply. Do not treat a nationwide category as proof that a particular child qualifies.

3. Confirm a place. Ask that provider whether it will operate on your date, whether there is capacity, how and when an application must be submitted, and what counts as acceptance. A listing or informational QR code is not a reservation or approval. The ministry's release does not specify a universal daily cutoff, available places, fees or application documents for every provider. If the portal path is unavailable, ask the local education office, local authority or provider for the current route instead of inferring that the service itself has ended.

These are our editorial questions for a phone call, not additional government-imposed eligibility rules. The provider's current instructions control the practical next step.

Do not bring the 2027 notices forward to 2026

The ministry says that from February 2027, a URL to gap-care information is to be sent via KakaoTalk's kindergarten admission notification channel. It separately says from the second half of 2027 notices will be provided through Government24's National Secretary (국민비서) and Benefits Notification (혜택알리미) services. Both are announced future information channels as of the release, not a current way to book a place. Receiving an information URL will not itself confirm care.

A blank planner for considering dates and hours, not a provider timetable or confirmed place.

Bottom line: use the announced official search routes to identify candidates, but confirm operating hours, eligibility, capacity and application status with the actual provider before relying on care. This guide reflects the October 19 ministry release; individual operations can change.
