South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a special travel advisory for Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia, effective at 00:00 on October 24, 2026. Its October 23 announcement cites persistent haze from wildfires. This is not a special travel advisory for all of Indonesia. Check the province you plan to visit, rather than treating the country's name as the alert boundary.
Which parts of Indonesia are covered?
| Region | Status in the ministry's post-adjustment list |
|---|---|
| Central Kalimantan | Special travel advisory, effective October 24 at midnight |
| West Papua, Papua, Maluku and Aceh | Level 2: refrain from travel (여행자제) |
| All other areas outside the special-advisory and Level 2 regions | Level 1: exercise caution (여행유의) |
This is the regional breakdown in the ministry's October 23 notice, not a prediction of future conditions. Advisory boundaries may change: consult the latest official notice before departure.
Why did the ministry issue the alert?
The ministry reports that haze from Kalimantan wildfires has persisted, air quality in Central Kalimantan has reached a level it says threatens health, acute respiratory infections have increased, and flights have been disrupted. Its release lists 314,124 acute respiratory infection patients and disruptions to 2,604 flights for August 17–October 20, 2026. These are figures quoted for that past period; they do not tell you today's air quality or whether a particular flight is operating.
Advice addressed to Korean nationals
- Planning to visit Central Kalimantan: The ministry asks Korean nationals to cancel or postpone their trip there.
- Already in Central Kalimantan: It asks Korean nationals to take special care for their safety and, unless travel is essential, move to a safer area.
- Before departing or moving: Recheck the current province-specific advisory and the operating status of your own flight through official channels. The release does not confirm individual flight schedules.
Travelers of other nationalities should also consult the advice issued by their own authorities; the directions above are attributed specifically to South Korea's ministry for its nationals.
In brief
Central Kalimantan—not all of Indonesia—is the subject of this special travel advisory. The other regional levels in this article reflect the ministry's October 23 announcement; verify the latest status before travel.
