At Auckland Airport (AKL) International Terminal, choose the service before the letter on the bus-stop sign. Auckland Transport's AirportLink uses international Stop A for the Puhinui Station connection. SkyDrive uses international Stop E for the SkyCity/Hobson Street coach. There is also a domestic Stop A for SkyDrive—but it is not the international AirportLink stop.
These are the transport authority's and coach operator's public descriptions checked on October 24, 2026. They do not establish whether a coach is physically at the kerb, a seat is available, or the railway is operating at this instant. Both services are outside the secure passenger zone: travellers remaining airside without entering New Zealand cannot simply board them.
Decide on the route, then the stop
Swipe the table sideways to see the final “Same-day check” column.
| Service | International terminal | Journey toward central Auckland | Same-day check |
|---|---|---|---|
| AirportLink | Stop A | Bus to Puhinui Station, then change to rail | Train operation, complete itinerary, AT payment |
| SkyDrive | Stop E | Coach toward the SkyCity complex on Hobson Street | Direction/date-specific departure and seat |
The table applies to International Terminal. At Domestic Terminal, the published AirportLink stop is B while SkyDrive's is A. Reusing an A without naming the terminal and operator is a wayfinding error.
AirportLink Stop A: the Puhinui rail connection
Auckland Transport's airport-services page says its orange AirportLink serves international Stop A, domestic Stop B, Puhinui Station and Manukau Bus Station. Puhinui connects onward to the rail network. For a central-city journey this is a bus-plus-rail transfer, not a direct city coach; allow time to carry luggage between vehicles and wait for the connection.
AT quotes 18–20 minutes from Puhinui to International Terminal. That is the airport bus leg only, not a door-to-door central-city estimate. Its 04:30–00:40, approximately ten-minute service description appears under “Travelling to Auckland Airport” for the Puhinui-to-airport connection. It does not establish the last departure from international Stop A toward the city or guarantee a rail connection.
AT explicitly warns that rail works can close trains to Puhinui and require replacement buses. On the day, enter the actual origin, destination and date in AT Journey Planner rather than combining headline bus and rail times. AT accepts an AT HOP card or supported contactless card/device and says cash is not accepted on AT buses. The airport-services page identifies an AT HOP vending machine inside the Transport Hub beside international Stop A. Look up today's fare for the actual journey, not an old traveller's flat price.

SkyDrive Stop E: the SkyCity connection
SkyDrive's Auckland service page describes an airport coach to the SkyCity complex, stopping on the Hobson Street side. This avoids a rail change at Puhinui, but SkyCity is not automatically the traveller's hotel entrance; calculate the final walk or local connection separately.
The operator's Help and FAQs locates International Terminal Stop E between the Transport Hub and Novotel, along the covered pedestrian access. Domestic SkyDrive Stop A is between Doors 3 and 4 in a different terminal. SkyDrive strongly recommends booking online: a walk-in seat is not guaranteed when a vehicle is full. Its published first/last-coach statements refer to particular directions and terminals, so do not read them as a single all-direction service window. Confirm the precise date, direction, current fare and remaining seats in the booking flow.

What a recent traveller reported—and what it cannot prove
A first-person SkyDrive account published September 30, 2026 says the writer looked for what they called “gate 8” before walking outside, asked staff to find the coach, and experienced a late arrival on one airport-to-city journey. The original post does not separately specify the date of the trip. That wording is not a verified current exit or stop number. The observation supports leaving wayfinding and traffic slack; it does not override the operator's current Stop E label, set today's fare or establish a general punctuality rate.
Operator and authority pages own stop and service claims; travellers' experiences remain attributed observations, not a second schedule. A past anecdote cannot rank today's fares, door-to-door travel times or punctuality.
Which service fits, and what to check before leaving
- Connecting to rail at Puhinui: find international AirportLink Stop A. Confirm the current rail service and total AT itinerary, particularly near the start or end of the day.
- Heading toward SkyCity without a rail change: find international SkyDrive Stop E. Check the coach's travel direction, reservation, fare and boarding time for your own date.
- Travelling late, with bulky luggage or a tight onward schedule: budget for immigration/baggage collection, the landside walk, boarding and possible rail disruption. Consider a different ground-transport option if the complete itinerary does not work.
Day-of checklist: (1) finish the necessary arrival/entry steps and reach landside; (2) match international A or E to the operator, not just the letter; (3) check live travel plans, bookings and payment; (4) follow current terminal signs or staff if the published route has changed. Neither checked page is a live vehicle-location or remaining-seat guarantee.
